Damage at home: what to do
A burst pipe, a broken window, a storm: your home insurance may pay for the repair if the papers are in order. FACTOTUM helps you get them right.
Right away
- Turn off the water at the main valve and, if water is near sockets, the electricity.
- Photograph the damage before you clean or move anything.
- Move furniture and valuables to safety; mop up the water.
- Call your insurer: many run a 24/7 assistance line.
Deadline
For water damage, Luxembourg insurers often ask for the claim within 8 working days. Check your contract; for large damage the insurer sends an expert first.
How FACTOTUM helps
- When booking, tick “insurance claim” and say what happened and when. We show you the reporting deadline.
- The handyman sends a quote. Nothing starts without your approval. If an expert is coming, the handyman waits.
- The handyman takes photos before and after, with date and time.
- After the work you download one PDF: claim, quote, invoice with VAT, materials and photos.
What your insurer asks you for
- Photos of the damage before the repair, with date and time, and a few photos after the work.
- An estimate before the work: what will be done, how many hours or m² and the price.
- The invoice with VAT, the tradesperson’s name and business permit, and the receipts for materials.
- Report the claim as soon as possible; the exact deadline is in your contract (often 8 working days).
- Limit the damage (turn off water, power) and do not throw anything away before the insurer agrees.
Official rules in Luxembourg:
FACTOTUM is not an insurer and does not promise that the costs will be covered: only your insurer decides.
